With increasing purchasing power the demand for oilseeds and vegetable oils is rapidly growing as well. The annual growth rate meanwhile stands at 3 - 4 %. International trade in oilseeds has thus reached a volume of about 60 million tonnes, soybeans account for almost three quarters thereof.

As regards the suppliers, there are the three most important exporting countries USA, Brazil, and Argentina accounting for roughly 80 % of worldwide exports.

Worldwide trade in vegetable oils totals approximately 33 million tonnes, thereof 15 million tonnes palm oil and 8 million tonnes soybean oil. Apart from these two oils, Toepfer International is also active in the rapeseed oil, sunflowerseed oil, linseed oil, maizegerm oil, palmkernel oil, and coconut oil trade.

There is more to worldwide trading in agricultural commodities than just buying and selling. The service that goes with the actual transaction is gaining more and more in importance.
